That awkward moment when your friends have no idea who Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are.
Submitted by:  lucyfanatic

and you see emptiness behind their eyes trying to explain “you know, those two from RKO studios… that couple in a lot of musical of the 30s, mostly with scores by Irving Berlin… or George Gershwin… or Jerome Kern… titles like Top Hat, Flying Down to Rio, Follow the fleet… oh, never mind”

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE SO MUCH SUBLIME IN ONE PHOTO?
L-R bottom row:Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich, (???) someone I should recognize but don’t
R-L top row:  Mah Boo Stanwyck (!!!), ?? someone I should recognize but don’t, Rosalind Russell

And the middle on the top row MAY be Susan Hayward. That would be my guess.

Isn’t that Joan there across the way too?! And maybe Shirley Temple next to her? Also I’m no expert but is that ~possibly Loretta Young behind the possible Susan Hayward? lol I love photos like this! XD

I love this photo and all the speculation into who the others are. I love that if that is Joanie, she is the only woman in a fur coat. Makes me laugh. Anyone know where this photo was taken? A polo match?

Correct me if i’m wrong but i think it goes like thisfirst row: ingrid bergman, marlene dietrich, irene dunne.second row: rosalind russell, jean arthur, barbara stanwyck and those badass sunglasses, and Loretta Young in the back.in the back: i’m quite possitive that’s ginger rogers and then joan crawford and next to joan it’s Shirley.

I don’t think that that is Jean Arthur in the second row, but I agree with the rest.

Once again, I’m worried I’ll lose followers just for ranking someone lower than people will probably think I should. Again, I say that it’s a very close ranking system that could change at a moment’s notice, especially between numbers 3 and 6 on the girls’ side.

Anyway, surely…

“She sang “We’re in the Money” partially in pig latin.  Who does that?  It’s awesome!” Ginger Rogers did it! :D

The Gay Divorcee (1934) is on TCM @ the moment.
Ginger Rogers is TCM’s Star of the Month for March and every Wednesday night starting at 8pm EST they show her films.
Tonight they’re showing all of her films with Fred Astaire!  So if you haven’t seen one of them then tonight is the night to catch it.

Watching even though I own the complete Astaire and Rogers dvd set lol. I always do though.

Ginger, Fred & Judy Garland. I love this picture so so much!!! <3 <3

Absolutely lovely! So much pretty in one picture.

I’m guessing that this is before Judy started sending Ginger mustache cups…? Lawl, I don’t even know if that’s true, but I like to tell the legend, anyway. Judy Garland biographies screwed up my life, I just want to pay it forward to future generations.
Anyway, I don’t quite understand the dynamic of this picture. Why is Judy on the set of Barkleys, a movie she was fired from, wearing a costume from Easter Parade, which I would imagine was already completed? I mean, if I were Ginger, I would have seen Judy, been like, “THIS IS A DISASTUH” and run off. But Ginger was irl super nice and drank milkshakes, (which makes her even nicer… idk, logic fails me sometimes), unlike myself. I’m probably the most horrible person you’ll ever meet. I hide from family members, at the store.
So… would someone explain this to me? I understand this picture about as much as Robert Osborne understands Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. AKA NOT AT ALL.

I know this confuses me too!  I read she was mad because Ginger got her role and that she was trying to get under her skin with the mustache cup!

Do we have confirmation of this shaving cup incident??? Because… I want to.

Judy’s in her Words and Music dress, so she was probably biking (yes) around the studio, hitting up different stages, because she has little to no part in that movie. Judy was probably telling Fred and Ginger about someone who gave someone else a shaving cup and they thought it was the FUNNIEST. SHIT. EVER.
I enjoy that Fred is light weight and compact enough to sit on the arm of that type of chair.
Ginger’s arm looks like it’s afraid of Judy.

OH GOD, YOU’RE RIGHT. I was thinking that was her last scene Easter Parade dress. I always think Words & Music was early 40’s, for some reason.

I don’t know about judy’s dress but that definitely looks like the one ginger wears in barkleys of broadway. though i know it was MAD AWKWARD when judy came on set for that so either i’m wrong or they are more uncomfortable in this then they look.

Ginger looks a little uncomfortable but Judy looks very sure of herself like she has this moment betweent the 3 of them, lol.  She’s definitely in control.

I think in Ginger’s book she said Judy would hang around the set and it made her uncomfortable lol. I bet she was staring daggers at her. And that is deff the dress Ginger wears for the They Can’t Take That Away From Me number. And Judy’s looks like the Words and Music dress for sure.
Give me a sec and I will look it up and tell you what she said.
